About Us

Dear Parents and Students of Taylor Canyon Elementary,

My name is Donald Mendenhall. I have worked in the Ogden City School District for the past 21 years. I have worked as the assistant principal at Ogden High for six years, and I have been the principal of Shadow Valley Elementary and Heritage Elementary. I am very happy to be here at Taylor Canyon. It took no time for me to realize that this school community has great parents, students and school staff. I am certain that we will have a wonderful school year.

As we work together, there may be times when you need to speak with me directly, or you may even want to meet with me. If this is the case, please call or email me at mendenhalld@ogdensd.org.

We strongly encourage parent involvement in our school. There are many ways you can volunteer at our school. Classroom volunteers, reading volunteers, PTA and Community Council are just a few of them. Thank you for your ongoing interest and support for our school and your children's education.

Taylor Canyon Elementary was reopened on August 25th, 2010. After being closed for four years, the school got a new identity and name. The school includes the Accelerated Learning Academy with grades 1 - 6. Students from the neighborhood joined with these ALA students to make this school Taylor Canyon. The school was refurbished by removing the old tile, laying new carpet, painting classrooms, and getting new technology in each classroom. Teachers have the ability to use this new technology that includes: InterWrite boards, document cameras, projectors, and speaker systems. The students will also be able to use student responders and mobi pads to complete the technology available.

The faculty and staff come from a variety of schools throughout the district as well as recent graduates in the education program at WSU. There is a wide talent level within this group and we expect to use those talents to make Taylor Canyon a cut above.
